Core 1 Overview
The Core Research Programmes of Mobile VCE are undertaken on behalf of all members and funded from their subscriptions and governmental research grants.
The Core 1 Programme commenced formally on 1st April 1997, and comprised some 54 man years of work over a three year period. Approximately 60% of the work was funded by Mobile VCE from its Members' subscriptions, while the remaining 40% was provided by the UK Office of Science and Technology (OST), administered through the EPSRC, on behalf of OST.
Mobile VCE's Core 1 Research Programme was divided into four Work Areas which were designed to ensure that they were truly complementary, and to avoid replication of work being undertaken within other initiatives. They were:
Networks
Services and Service Metrics
Radio Environment
Terminals
The total cost of the Core 1 Programme was around three million pounds, and was closely guided by the Industrial Members to ensure its quality, rigour and continued relevance, through the Steering Group mechanism.
A one-page summary of the Objectives & Results of the Core 1 Programme is available here - although condensing the results of such a comprehensive programme of work onto one page has been challenging !
Comprehensive reports on all aspects of the research are
available to our Members. If you work for a Member company and wish to gain
access to a copy of the relevant research report, please contact your company's
Mobile VCE nominated representative. If you are unsure of who this individual
is, this information may be obtained by contacting the
Mobile VCE office.
